The Best Skincare Ingredients for Mature & Sensitive Skin

When it comes to skincare, I've always believed that choosing the right ingredients matters far more than having a complicated routine.

As someone who has experienced sensitive skin myself, I know how difficult it can be to find products that feel gentle while also addressing the visible signs of ageing.

Over the years, my passion for understanding botanical ingredients and skincare formulation led me to create Be Jolie London.

Today, I want to share some of my favourite skincare ingredients and explain why they deserve a place in a thoughtful skincare routine.

1. Hyaluronic Acid — The Hydration Essential

Hyaluronic acid is one of the most widely recognised ingredients in modern skincare, and for good reason.

It is a humectant, meaning it helps attract and hold water, supporting skin hydration.

For mature skin, maintaining hydration can help soften the appearance of dehydration lines and improve the feeling of skin suppleness.

Why I love it: It can provide effective hydration without requiring a heavy texture.

Hyaluronic acid is a key ingredient in my Be Jolie London Miracle Serum and Miracle Glow & Go formulations.

2. Niacinamide — A Versatile Skin Barrier Supporter

Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide is one of my favourite multifunctional skincare ingredients.

It can help support the skin barrier, improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and contribute to smoother-looking skin.

For sensitive skin, formulation and concentration matter. Higher percentages aren't necessarily better, especially if your skin is easily irritated.

Why I love it: It offers several potential skincare benefits in one ingredient.

You'll find niacinamide in selected Be Jolie London serum and moisturising formulations.

3. Glycerin — The Underrated Hydration Hero

Glycerin may not receive as much attention as fashionable skincare actives, but it's one of the ingredients I particularly value as a formulator.

Like hyaluronic acid, glycerin is a humectant that helps attract water.

When included in a well-balanced moisturiser, it can improve hydration and help skin feel soft and comfortable.

Why I love it: It's a dependable ingredient that works beautifully alongside other moisturising components.

4. Vitamin E — An Antioxidant Skincare Favourite

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant commonly used in skincare formulations.

It helps protect formulation oils from oxidation and can contribute to skin-conditioning benefits.

For mature skin, antioxidants can be a useful addition to a routine focused on maintaining healthy-looking skin.

Why I love it: Vitamin E works well alongside nourishing botanical oils and carefully selected moisturising ingredients.

5. Botanical Oils — Nourishment and Comfort

Botanical oils have always been an important part of my approach to skincare formulation.

Depending on their composition, plant oils can help soften the skin, replenish emollients and reduce moisture loss.

Ingredients such as rosehip, baobab and broccoli seed oil offer different textures and fatty acid profiles.

However, natural does not automatically mean suitable for every sensitive skin type.

Why I love them: Carefully chosen botanical oils can give a moisturiser a beautiful, nourishing feel without relying solely on synthetic emollients.

6. Caffeine — A Favourite for the Eye Area

Caffeine is often found in eye creams because it may temporarily help improve the appearance of puffiness.

It's frequently combined with hydrating and skin-conditioning ingredients to support a fresher-looking eye area.

My award-winning Miracle Eye Cream combines caffeine with Beautifeye®, pea phytokeratin and vitamin E.

Why I love it: It can complement a carefully formulated eye cream designed for the delicate skin around the eyes.

What Matters More Than a Single Ingredient?

One thing I've learned through developing skincare is that a product is much more than its ingredient list.

The concentration of each ingredient, the way ingredients work together, the product's pH, preservation and overall formulation all influence how it performs.

For sensitive skin, it's particularly important to introduce new products gradually and patch-test before regular use.

A thoughtfully formulated product should support your skin's needs without overwhelming it.

A Personal Note from Me

When I began creating Be Jolie London, I wasn't simply looking for another skincare product.

I wanted to understand what my skin needed and create formulations that reflected that understanding.

My approach has always been to combine the beauty of botanical ingredients with carefully chosen skincare actives.

And while our skin naturally changes over time, I believe skincare should be about caring for ourselves rather than fighting against ageing.
